Finance for a Blue Planet
Green Sea Finance exists to offer debt funding to companies with a demonstrated commitment to the sustainability of our seas, lakes, and rivers.

Pioneering "Blue Finance"
Blue finance is a specialised branch of sustainable finance focused on the
protection, restoration, and responsible use of marine and freshwater resources.
Green Sea is dedicated exclusively to this space.
The health of the oceans is critical to the health of the planet. Yet the blue economy
has long been overlooked by sustainable finance. In 2024, only 7% of green bond
funding supported blue economy activities.
Seagrass exists to help correct this imbalance. We understand that the businesses
that make up the blue economy operate differently from other green sectors. They
face unique challenges and opportunities that require tailored financial solutions.

What we do
At Green Sea, we focus on proven business models with a track record of success.
We do not rely on carbon markets, nature credits, or regulatory mechanisms that depend on government intervention.
Instead, we focus on businesses with sustainability embedded in their core model – and we help them scale.
This ensures that investors, portfolio companies, and Green Sea itself all work toward the same outcome: a resilient blue economy supported by thriving marine and freshwater ecosystems.
To build this future, Green Sea is currently focused on four foundational areas:
01
Mapping the blue economy
02
Designing blue finance products
03
Building blue literacy in the financial world
04
Developing blue finance standards

Identifying the businesses that make up the blue economy and understanding their financial needs.

Developing equity and debt instruments tailored to the realities of blue economy
enterprises.
Equipping investors with the knowledge to understand the blue economy and recognise the opportunities it offers.

Creating benchmarks and definitions for blue finance in a market where no legal standard yet exists.
